2015 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro

Posted: Sat. Dec. 14 07:01:09 2019

Hatch Toyota - Servicing all of Arizona! n not having enough power, I bought used (43k miles) 2015 Tundra Crewmax 2WD w/ 4.6L engine. I really liked the truck overall yet it seemed lacking power when in cruise control going over even the slightest hills. I never tried towing anything with it. I recently took it on trip on unpaved mountain roads and passes. In total I drove it 10k miles. It actually did the job yet not without worry. It had great ground clearance for a 2WD-much more than my 02 GMC for sure. Yet not having 4WD low range on mountain roads was a noticeable deficiency. Though basically satisfied with the truck, I seriously regretted not getting the truck that I really wanted to save a few bucks. So, I decided to pull the trigger on the truck I should have bought and traded the 2015 2WD Tundra for a much, much nicer certified-pre-owed (41k miles) 2015 Tundra Crewmax; 5.7 IForce; 4x4;1794 Edition. It is twice the truck that the 4.6L Tundra was. MUCH more HP with only minimal fuel efficiency sacrifice. Definitely worth having the 5.7L. The 5.7L on cruise control traverses hills flawlessly and without much notice to the driver while the 4.6L put up quite the fuss having to constantly drop down to lower gear and rev up the engine, even on VERY slight uphill grades. After owning and driving both, I'm not sure why anyone would buy the 4.6L. If you are looking for fuel economy you shouldn't be shopping Tundras anyway. Giving up only 1.5-2 MGP for the HP that the 5.7 L offers is a no-brainer. The 5.7 drives MUCH, MUCH better and smoother and has PLENTY of power. The 1794 saddle leather interior is truly well done. Of course the 1794 comes with ALL the bells and whistles and even a sun roof that I honestly will prob never use. The 5.7 is provides a very quiet and smooth ride on the highway although at 70-75 mph it does run about 2k RPMs which is noticeably higher than the RPMs the 4.6L ran at. No doubt the cause for the higher RPM is the 4.3:1 gear ratio which is geared a bit lower than one might be accustomed to. So far, the only "complaint" I have for this truck (as well as the 4.6L) is that there is NO STORAGE UNDER REAR SEATS. It is baffling to me that Toyota didn't include this when it is obvious that there is room there to work with. I have always carried a rifle in my truck and this truck is not equipped with the space that one could store a rifle. In my 02 GMC, it fit nicely under the back seats. There are apparently some after-market products for this and you can just cut carpet under seats and install storage box. Just seems that having quality factory installation would have been preferable. Overall though this truck is AWESOME and I simply LOVE it!!! Looking forward to taking the 5.7 4x4 off road.
